The Hundred Grass Tips
“For Hongzhi the whole purpose of practice is to “graciously share yourself with the hundred grass tips in the busy marketplace.””
For years I’ve reflected on what it means to “Go out into the world.”
In today’s age, disconnecting from the outside world is a privilege. When there’s so many beings suffering or in need, how could I justify holing up and closing the gates to them?
Wouldn’t it be best—and necessary—to fully embrace my responsibility to those below me while I hang from my (fake) teeth in the tree branch above? [1]
Do I have any other choice? I don’t believe so.
Here and now. Just this is it. Dangling in the branches, cliff below, with nothing to hold onto.
How wonderful.
